“Big 4” is a nickname for accounting firms with a considerable asset value and has an extensive network worldwide. The Big Four are the result of several accounting firms’ mergers since 1980, formerly known as the Big Ten, Big 8, and recently, Big 4. These companies provide a wide range of accounting and auditing services, including external audit, tax services, management consulting, business and risk assessment and control.

Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited

Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (Deloitte) was founded in 1845 in London, England, by William Welch Deloitte and headquartered in New York City, New York. This company specializes in audit & assurance, tax, advisory and risk, and offers a wide range of tax services. Includes strategic, financial, technical, and human resources. In 2004 with revenues of US$16.4 billion, Deloitte was the largest of the Big Four auditors in terms of revenue. Deloitte provides audit, tax, consulting, corporate risk, and financial services with more than 200,000 professionals in more than 150 countries. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)

PricewaterhouseCoopers, or PwC, is one of the largest public accounting firms in the world, with total revenue reaching US$41.3 billion. PwC has a network spread across 158 countries globally and is headquartered in London, England. This company results from a merger of two business entities, namely Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand. The two businesses, which merged in 1998, later changed their name to PricewaterhouseCoopers, which offers various services, but they still specialize in audit & assurance, tax, and consulting.
Ernst & Young (EY)
The company aims to assist clients in business activities such as auditing, corporate finance, tax, transactions, e-security, and enterprise risk management. The company has offices in about 140 countries with 77,000 employees. In addition, E&Y Corporation is the largest company to practice tax consulting in the US. Therefore, it was rated as the best accounting firm by US accounting professors in 2001.

Ernst & Young is an international organization with members in around 140 countries, headquartered in London, England, invented from the merger of several business entities in 1989, namely Ernst & Whinney by Arthur Young. In addition, the company is ranked the 9th largest private company in the US according to Forbes magazine.

KPMG was founded in 1986 with its head office in Amstelveen, The Netherlands and is the third-best company among the top ten Audit firms in 2011. The company operates in more than 650 offices located in more than 150 countries worldwide, employs around 138,000 people, and offers three primary service lines - tax, audit, and consulting. KPMG specializes in audits such as regulatory audits and financial audits, tax services such as china tax services, business, and personal tax services, and also provides consulting services, such as governance, performance, and growth, as well as providing financial risk management services, internal audit, compliance risk and services, accounting consulting services, and corporate financial services.
